Job Interview: planning is the secret to success

job interview

One of the most important considerations for those looking for new jobs is the interview. For those not used to job interviews, a little preparation goes a long way and some research into the industry can be of great help in showing your knowledge and interest in the work, whatever area you are interested in.

Interviews often begin with general information about yourself and the interviewer will be interested in who you are, where you come from and what motivates you. This will usually move into more job specific questions. This is where your research will help and interviewers will expect you to know something about the area, and at the very least to show some interest in the relevant industry. Often what throws people in such interviews, is the more abstract questions. You might be asked about a time when you showed initiative or showed leadership. These will be difficult to think of on the spot and the best advice is to have prepared answers to these kinds of questions. Think of kinds of qualities that they will be looking for and examples you can give of when you have exhibited these qualities.

Above all, be respectful, appropriately dressed, be enthusiastic and have a well prepared resume. You will be asked why you want the job or why you want to work for the company and you will be expected to show a level of interest and knowledge which will put you ahead of the other candidates.
