Labouring job vacancies: where to find them

Labouring jobs

Labouring job vacancies are a widespread source of employment in Australia. Here we highlight where to go looking for them.

Sector
Labouring job vacancies come in a variety of shapes and sizes, so it’s worth considering which particular area you want to start looking for jobs in (unless you’re open to any offers!)

A key employer is the construction industry. But there are always openings for labourers in many other areas of Australia. Away from the cities, you’ll find employment openings at harvest time, when farmers require seed baggers. There are also ‘fly in/fly out’ opportunities for labourers in the outback.

Finding jobs
Obviously, the easiest way to track down vacancies is from the comfort of your home. There are a host of sites that list current vacancies. Jobaroo.com is an excellent place to start. Labouring jobs are listed by title, agency, type (permanent or temporary), salary and location.

As well as labouring vacancies, the site offers general employment advice, such as information about work visas, or opening a bank account.

Agencies
If you want to be more proactive with your search for labouring vacancies, then you can register with an agency. This can either be done online , or if you’d prefer, you could sign on at an agency’s office. They’ll take a note of all the relevant details, particularly job experience or qualifications. Employers often find it far more convenient to go straight to agencies where a pool of potential labourers already exists, rather than pay to advertise.
