Part time concierge

Concierge jobs are crucial to the hospitality sector, providing a first contact for customers. Here we provide an overview of part time concierge work.

Shift work
Concierge jobs are often 24/7. Even as hotel customers are tucked up in their comfortable suites, there is a lot of activity behind the scenes. The kitchens and laundries will be working away, and cleaning staff will be ready to begin work early. The concierge will need to be co-ordinate activities.

Many organisations employ concierges on a part-time basis, so that the work can be split over shifts. The hospitality sector is subject to fluctuations, depending on particular times of the week (weekends are usually busiest, especially holiday weekends), or summer holidays. Hotels will often advertise of part-time concierges to provide support for the concierge at peak periods. During business lulls, a part-time concierge may well be considered sufficient to deal with the general daily operations of the hotel.

Attributes
Part-time concierges still have to exhibit the same professional qualities as permanent members of staff. They will have to be excellent communicators, and display discretion at all times.

Knowledge of the local area is extremely important, as you will be the first person approached by visitors requiring recommendations for tourist locations, or for taxis or tour buses to be booked.

Other duties
If you’re filling a position where there aren’t really enough duties to justify a full-time concierge, you may well be expected to take on additional tasks, such as some portering.
