Call centre jobs have a reputation of being easy to get. The industry has a high turnover rate and vacancies are frequent.

However, call centre employers are becoming more and more particular about choosing solid applicants. The great thing about this industry is that if you're passionate and work hard, you'll go far.

Call centre personnel often handle airline reservation questions or bookings, sales orders for info-mercial products, and other sales related calls. This is a lucrative career and sending in a good call centre resume is all it takes to get you started.

Focus on your achievements

Use your resume to focus on your achievements, giving examples of tasks you have successfully completed that demonstrate your strengths and competencies. These should include activities that reflect your attitude and personality. Rather than simply stating activities you have done, always explain what skill you have gained from that activity and the results you achieved.

Call centres tend to be target driven, so this will get you off on the right foot.

Be clear and concise

It's important to keep your resume clear and concise. Two sides of A4 are more than enough. Make sure the appearance of your resume is professional by avoiding fancy formatting and sticking to white or cream, good quality paper.

Call centre employers receive dozens of resumes every day and they simply don't have the time to read long winded applications. Make sure your major achievements stand out.

Remember the cover letter

Your resume should always be accompanied by a cover letter – especially if you are targeting a call centre that may not currently be advertising positions.

Call centre jobs are often sales orientated, so a cover letter is a great way to show off your salesperson skills and promote yourself.

Covering letters should be tailored to the call centre you are applying to work for, explaining why you want to work for that company and what qualities you have to offer over other applicants. The letter should be brief, no longer than a few paragraphs, and should interest and motivate the recruiter to read your resume.
